WHAT ESSIAC DOES AND THE VIRTUES
OF ITS CONSTITUENT HERBS

Essiac cannot be claimed to be a cure for anything, but because of its cleansing activity, it has a history of success when used by people with serious, sometimes life-threatening illnesses.
Essiac cleans the liver, cleans the blood and oxygenates the cells. Many people have reported an increased sense of well-being as well as increased energy after they have begun to take it.
If you decide to accept Chemotherapy or Radio- Therapy (Radium treatment), take Essiac at the same time. Many people have reported that their blood count has remained higher than people not taking Essiac and in addition, other side effects have been reduced. Taking Essiac as soon as possible after surgery helps the body to recover more quickly.

Ulmus fulva - (Slippery Elm bark, powdered) 4 parts

Arctium lappa - (Burdock, root cut) 24 parts
Variations in the formula are known, all are beneficial.
BURDOCK ROOT
Articum lappa - is the main herb in Essiac. It is a urinary tract stimulant, rich in insulin and iron. It is an excellent blood cleanser, especially where chronic conditions are present in the body. Conditions affecting all skin surfaces - whether inside or outside the body - benefit from its use.
SHEEP SORREL LEAF
Rumex acetocalla - replaces tissue that has begun to degenerate, therefore ulcerous conditions, whether in the digestive tract or on the surface of the body can be cleared by its use.
SLIPPERY ELM BARK
Ulnus fulva - is powdered and used as a mucous remover (demulcent). It soothes inflamed tissue in all the major organs and promotes relaxation of tension in the bowel, easing diarrhoea and constipation. It is nourishing and assists in all fluid elimination.
TURKEY RHUBARB ROOT
Rheum palmatum - sometimes called Indian Rhubarb - is a laxative but it is also  astringent which relieves diarrhoea. It stimulates the appetite as well as the digestive juices throughout the digestive system. It cleans the blood.

THE ESSIAC DECOCTION

The Essiac decoction which includes all the herbs listed above will include all the qualities of the four herbs but by being together in context many of their qualities are enhanced, giving what is called a synergistic value.
